HISTORY IN THE MAKING
Dunshaughlin Youths FC will celebrate the club's 20th anniversary this summer with a gala family fun day at the local Community Centre in June.

As part of the celebrations the club is currently putting together a booklet to mark this historic anniversary. Many players have passed through the ranks at DYFC over those 20 years and the club are anxious to make contact with them.

If you played for Dunshaughlin Youths at any stage and would like to be a part of the 20th anniversary celebrations and/or have a story to tell for the booklet please make contact with the club.

Further details are available from chairman Cathal Dervan on 087-2432978, on the club website at www.dyfc.ie or you can email info@dyfc.ie

DUNSHAUGHLIN YOUTHS FC  - THE FUTURE

Many thanks to all who attended the meeting for the next stages of re-organising our DYFC structures to streamline the organisation of our club and maximise the potential input of all our parents, managers and players to aid the work already being carried out by our committee. Great progress was made and we welcome any offers of support from parents who may feel they have something to offer DYFC going forward.

Further details are available from club chairman Cathal Dervan on 087-2432978.

COACHING INFORMATION

This year we have 2 new workshops to the Coach Education programme, it will be a requirement to complete both of these courses before enrolling on Youth Cert courses from September onwards. The Strength and Conditioning workshop is based around exercises for young children and will be very beneficial for you all to complete, it will cost €25 will take place from 7pm – 10pm on April 17th in the MDL Grounds.

The Small Sided Game Workshop will be an add on to the Kick Start 1 and gives a lot more ideas for small sided games for young players. Again this will cost €25 and will take place from 7pm – 10pm on September 16th in the MDL Grounds.

Even though a lot of you have already completed Youth Cert and further in some cases it's recommended that you further enhance your Coach Education by enrolling on these new courses. You will be some of the first coaches in the country to complete both new workshops so if you want to reserve a place please let us know as places will be strictly limited and we have been given the first opportunity to book places before an email goes to all the clubs, leagues and schools.

Anyone interested in any of these courses please contact Ollie Kirwan on 086-7959299

Dunshaughlin Youths got to lift the Ford FAI Cup recently – but the club's Under 9C side had to give it back after an enjoyable trip to the NDSL Futsal tournament at Gormanston College.

The under 9C squad got full value for their annual trip to the NDSL event with a 3-2 win over Skerries Town and a 1-1 draw with Navan Road United.

The squad were then presented with the Ford FAI Cup by representatives from champions Sporting Fingal but they had to give it back once the mandatory photos were secured. Our  photo below shows the Dunshaughlin Youths FC Under 9C squad with the Ford FAI Cup trophy in Gormanston.

JOHN O'MEARA - A TRIBUTE

It was with great sadness that the committee, members and players from Dunshaughlin Youths FC learnt of the death of our friend and benefactor John O'Meara.

For the past 14 years the boys and girls of Dunshaughlin have played their football on land provided to the club rent free by John at Dunshaughlin's Industrial Estate.

His magnanimous gesture was typical of the man's generosity to our club and the proof positive of that was his kind donation this year of 12 acres of land for new playing pitches for DYFC.

This land, ceded to our club by John and the Stanley brothers, will provide a fitting home for soccer in our village and would simply not have been possible without John's drive and co-operation.

John was also the prime sponsor, along with the Stanleys, of many of our fund raising drives in recent years including our golf classics.

Sadly John died , after an illness, but we will progress with our plans in his honour and he will always be close to our hearts.

To his wife Claire and his young children John and Charlie we can only offer our deepest sympathy. Our thoughts and prayers are with them in these difficult times.

MINI-LEAGUES 2009 A GREAT SUCCESS

Congratulations to all the boys and girls who participated in the DYFC 2009 Mini-Leagues and helped to make them such a success.

Almost 40 children took part in this year's festival when once again the football was fun and the skills level highly impressive. The club would like to send a big thank you to Colum Foley, Mairin Maher, Pauline Fitzpatrick and everyone who helped out with the organisation.

A special thanks is due to Brian Walker, Sodelvia Kinsella, Jim Dunne, Gerry Mee and Brian O'Connor who managed the four teams. Thanks also to Oliver Kirwan who refereed all week and to Andrew Kiernan and Gavan Regan who acted as linesmen for the final night. Our gratitude also goes to Gerry O'Connor and his staff at the Dunshaughlin Community Centre for providing pitches. Many of this year's players will now move to the our under seven teams in next season's NDSL and we wish them well.
